At The Arc Prince George’s County, we believe that every individual, regardless of ability, deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling, self-directed life. A crucial part of making that a reality is the work of our Personal Support Team—a group of dedicated professionals who provide essential one-on-one assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes and communities.
They are more than caregivers—they are mentors, advocates, and companions. Their work goes beyond meeting daily needs; they help individuals build connections, develop independence, and actively engage with their communities. Whether it’s assisting with daily living tasks, facilitating social interactions, or supporting recreational outings, their dedication plays a key role in improving the quality of life for those we serve.
Each brings compassion, energy, and dedication to their work every day. Their responsibilities vary based on the unique needs of the individuals they support, but their goal is always the same: to help people live their best lives.
- As Community Companions, they provide support in home environments, helping individuals develop life skills, maintain routines, and achieve personal goals. Whether it’s meal preparation, personal care, or simply providing a reassuring presence, they ensure a safe and supportive living space.
- As Community Integration Specialists, they go a step further, helping individuals navigate the world beyond their homes. They plan recreational outings, provide transportation, and encourage participation in local events—ensuring that those they support are actively involved in their communities.
More Than a Job – A Commitment to Inclusion
For our Personal Support Team, this work isn’t just about providing assistance—it’s about building relationships and empowering individuals to lead independent, self-determined lives. The support they provide allows individuals to explore their interests, make choices, and engage with the world in meaningful ways.
Thanks to their dedication, the individuals we serve can attend events, visit local parks, develop new skills, and form lasting connections—things that many take for granted but are life-changing for those with developmental disabilities.
