Parents & Families of Children with Disabilities

Parent and Family Trainings

The Arc provides trainings in various subject areas to inform and empower parents and families. Arc staff, special speakers, and other professionals in the field bring topics such as Individual Education Plans (IEPs), language development, autism resources, and parent advocacy to the forefront. The Arc also provides advocacy workshops geared toward transitioning youth, ages 16 – 21. For meeting times and more information, contact Melonee Clark at 301-925-7050, ext. 307.

Special Education Citizen’s Advisory Committee (SECAC)
SECAC is a partnership between parents, families, community leaders, educators, and administrators working to effect positive systemic change in the area of special education. The committee meets the 4th Tuesday of every month from 6:30-8:00 at The Arc Building, 1401 McCormick Drive, Largo. www.secacpg.org or www.facebook.com/SECACPG

Networking opportunities for adults with disabilities

People On the Go
This self-advocacy group meets monthly to help people with disabilities learn to speak up for themselves and work together as a team. The group strives to educate people about being independent, advocate for people’s rights, and have fun. Membership is free and open to anyone with a disability. Contact Kasey DeMent at 301-322-8306 ext. 308 for meeting times and more information.

Out On the Town
This social club for adults with developmental disabilities meets every other week in the evenings to have fun, dine out, and participate in a variety of social and recreational opportunities in the community. The club provides its members access to an array of recreational opportunities that encourage healthy and lasting relationships. For more information please contact Jasmin Linder at 301-322-8306.

Residential Family Support Group

The Arc Prince George’s County’s Residential Family Support Group offers family members an opportunity to meet with other families involved in The Arc’s Residential Program. Meetings offer family members support and information. Arc staff are often invited to share information about The Arc’s programs. Finance, Maintenance, Health, Human Rights, Transportation, Training and Recreation are some of the topics that have been explored.
