Ciara Barkley-Cutting has been recognized as one of the “Under 40 to Watch” by the Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS)

Ciara Barkley-Cutting, a dedicated and visionary member of our team, has been recognized as one of the “Under 40 to Watch” by the Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS). This prestigious honor highlights Ciara’s exceptional contributions to the field of positive behavior support and her tireless advocacy for individuals with neurodevelopmental (ND) and intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD).

Ciara Barkley-Cutting is a neurodivergent Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with over a decade of experience supporting individuals with ND and IDD. Her journey in the field began with early intervention for children with autism, but her expertise and passion have since expanded to providing behavior support for individuals of all ages. Her approach is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of those she serves.

Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership & Management with a concentration in Mind, Brain, and Learning at Drexel University, Ciara is deeply involved in advancing research and practice in the field. She is an affiliate researcher with Drexel’s Education, Learning, and Brain Sciences (E-LaBS) Research Collaborative and a Clinical Trainee in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Fellowship at Children’s National. Her research focuses on exploring the lived experiences of individuals and families receiving services, with the goal of reshaping service systems to better support all stakeholders.

Ciara’s contributions extend beyond her research. She has shared her insights and expertise at prominent conferences, including the Greatness Grows Here Early Childhood Conference and Paths for Families’ Healing Together Conference, where she has spoken on universal design, applied behavior analysis, and the power of lived experience. Her belief that “When we know better, we do better” underscores her mission to drive systemic change that benefits individuals, families, and service providers alike.

The “Under 40 to Watch” recognition is a testament to Ciara’s innovative approach, dedication, and impact in the field of positive behavior support. At The Arc Prince George’s County, we have witnessed first-hand how her leadership and expertise transform lives and inspire change.

Rob Malone, CEO of The Arc Prince George’s County, shared, “Ciara embodies the spirit of innovation and advocacy that defines our mission. Her recognition by APBS is well-deserved, and we are honored to have her as a part of our team.”

Ciara’s work aligns perfectly with The Arc’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve their full potential. Her ability to merge lived experience with professional expertise continues to pave the way for a more inclusive and supportive future.

Congratulations, Ciara Barkley-Cutting, on this remarkable achievement! Your work is an inspiration to all of us, and we are excited to see the continued impact you will make in the years to come.
